Hunter is actively involved in both local and statewide bars.  He has held every position within the Williamsburg Bar Association.  He has represented the 9th Judicial Circuit (Williamsburg, York, New Kent, Gloucester, Mathews, King William and King & Queen) for the Virginia State Bar's Bar Council, and has been Chair of several Virginia State Bar committees.

Hunter earned a BA in English Literature from the College of William & Mary, and his law degree from the George Mason University School of Law.  In between college and law school, he worked for several years as a news reporter in Los Angeles, California, for a group of newspapers and a wire service (before the Internet!).

Hunter was a helicopter pilot and officer in the US Army Reserves for more than 14 years, and is qualified to fly the UH-1 (Huey) and CH-47 (Chinook).  He served as a company commander in Kuwait as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2003-04. 

Hunter also has served as a board member of statewide and local non-profit organizations, including the Virginia Aeronautical Historical Society, Williamsburg Symphony, Housing Partnerships Association, Alzheimer's Association and Faith in Action of Williamsburg.
